CATHERINE DOYLE AIMONE
Is a versatile, collaborative, results orientated entrepreneur and plant biologist who is passionate about enhancing agriculture systems more sustainably and has collected experience in several areas including the following: academic grant writer, research, project manager, outreach specialist, and business development/management.
ABOUT ME
I am business owner and scientist who has passion for feeding others which is exemplified in my thesis research, entrepreneurship, and outreach locally and internationally.
My career vision is to work in leadership and management roles that allow me to drive agriculture development for small and large scale farmers, and feed the growing population, sustainably. My mission is to collaborate and build entities that produce crop solutions and transform how we produce and distribute food globally.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
DOCTORAL RESEARCH THESIS, NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY.
August 2016-Present
Executed NextGen Seq and Bisulfite seq and analyzed big data to investigate the impact of DNA methylation on the type, frequency and/or location of mutations in the viral DNA genome that accumulate through multiple generations at different temperatures.
Performed and evaluated RNA-seq data to evaluate the role of siRNAs in the establishment of viral DNA methylation patterns and evolution.
Coordinated and performed team projects across three universities and two countries to examine viral evolution of Cassava Mosaic Disease.
RESEARCH ASSISTANT, DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY, NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
May 2014-August 2016
Investigated the impact of SEGS on transgenic technology for general resistance against Cassava Mosaic Disease.
Developed and designed CRISPR-Cas9 system for cassava tissue culture.
Performed RT-PCR, Northern Blot Analysis, 5’ RACE and Primer Extension to identify SEGS transcripts in ACMV-A infected Arabidopsis transgenic plants.
Completed infectious studies to determine the phenotypic effect of SEGS II on transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana.
Cultivated and maintained cassava plants and tissue culture stocks.
Developed a bisulfite protocol to look at epigenetic marks between different cassava land races.
Supervise radiation practices and conduct radiation surveys and orders.
HONORS THESIS PROJECT, DAVIDSON COLLEGE
August 2013-May 2014
Developed a series of python scripts to generate riboswtich sequences for known aptamers.
Performed Golden Gate Assembly to clone multiple riboswitch constructs simultaneously.
Successfully identified a new theophylline riboswitch using an in silico approach.
LABORATORY ASSISTANT, DEPARTMENT OF PLANT BIOLOGY, CARNEGIE INSTITUTION FOR SCIENCE
June 2013 - August 2013
Investigated a method to systematically discovery novel transcriptional regulators in Arabidopsis.
Performed brightfield, phase contrast, and confocal miscrospy to identify the subcellular location of a candiate protein in the root tip of Arabidopsis thaliana.
Wrote a python script to accelerate identification and curation of putative transcriptonal regulators for a given genome.
Completed genotyping of a plant population using DNA extraction and PCR to pinpoint a triple heterzygote mutant.
Managed planting, growth, transplation, watering, and harvesting of Arabidopsis thaliana used in experiments.
INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECT, SCHOOL FOR FIELD STUDIES, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
August 2012-December 2012
Investigated the above ground biomass contribution of tree size classes to carbon sequestration.
Lead a group of three students to tag, log and measure diameter and height of trees in the Australian Government Rainforest Research Site.
Logged, analyzed and evaluated large-scale data from field survey.
INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECT, DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, DAVIDSON COLLEGE.

BARRY'S CAFE
I am co-owner of Barry's Cafe, a welcoming family restaurant that would provide all-day breakfast and delicious hamburgers that weren’t overcooked. With only 50 seats, Barry’s Cafe opened its doors on May 19, 1992 in the Swift Creek Shopping Center of Cary, NC. The founding mission of Barry’s Cafe, to make each person leave happier than when they first arrived, is still carried out to this day. We accomplished the goal of making customers feel like family by learning the names of more than 3500 individuals.
